Bullion $25 Gold

The $25 bullion gold American eagle contains exactly one-half ounce of pure gold, mixing an alloy of 91.67% gold, 3% silver and 5.33% copper, with a weight of 16.966 grams. First struck in 1986, the denomination as been coined every year since and until 1991 used a Roman numeral date. The obverse depicts the magnificent striding Liberty motif, conceived by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which many consider be one of the world's most beautiful coinage designs. Proofs were first offered by the Mint being in 1987. This coin represents the first use of the $25 denomination on United States coinage. However, the value of the gold content far exceeds the coin's face value. Many collectors assemble sets of the series, with ultimate quality Proof-70 and Mint State-70 generating significant premiums. Reference books include: A GUIDE BOOK OF UNITED STATES COINS by R.S.
